Petition to file charges against Hasina and 33 others for murder at Hefazat rally

DHAKA, August 18, 2024 (BSS) – An application for filing a case has been filed
against Sheikh Hasina and 33 others for mass murder at the Hefazat rally-
e-Islam Bangladesh in Motijheel Shapla Chattar area on May 5, 2013.

The chairman of the Bangladesh Peoples Party (BPP), Babul Sardar Chakhari, submitted the
Application to the Court of Magistrate Zaki-al Farabi of Dhaka.

The judge accepted the plaintiff’s statement and instructed the officer to
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Motijheel Thana to investigate the matter and
Report.

The other known defendants in the case are: former Interior Minister Asaduzzaman
Khan Kamal, former Advisor to Prime Minister Salman F Rahman, Ministry of Defence
Military Advisor Tarek Siddiqui, formerly Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC)
Mayor Fazle Noor Taposh, former MPs Rashed Khan Menon and Hasanul Haque
Inu, joint general secretary of the Awami League, Mahbubul Alam Hanif, former
Textile Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, former Inspector General of Police
(IGP) Benazir Ahmed and IGP Hasan Mahabub Khandkar, former RAB chief AKM
Shahidul Haque, former NSI chief Ziaul Hasan, former DC Motijheel Division
Biplab Kumar Sarker, former OC of Motijheel Police Station Omar Faruk, former
District Commissioner Munsur Ahmed, the then Motijheel Police Station Chhatra League
President Mahabubul Haque Hiron, Awami League leader Mumtaz Parveen, former
Motijheel Police Station OC Farman Ali, Chairman of the National People’s Party
Salahuddin Salu, former Motijheel DC Nazmul Alam, retired director of Hamdard
Group Major Iqbal etc.

The motion states that leaders, members and workers of Hefazat-e Islam
Bangladesh won by 13 points at Motijheel Shapla Chattar Road
Demand to the then government on May 5, 2013.

Within the next 24 hours from 11 p.m. onwards, the police and army personnel
with the consent of the accused, massacred the demonstrators, innocent
Madrasa students and passers-by, it was said.
