Local employment numbers mixed – Chico Enterprise-Record

CHICO – The latest employment numbers paint a mixed picture for Butte County: Employment is down month-over-month but up year-over-year.

The county cut 2,100 jobs from June to July, according to a report released Friday by the California Employment Development Department. However, the total of 79,500 jobs represented an increase of 2,400 from July 2023.

Most of the job losses occurred in the public sector. Four other sectors, none of which are related to agriculture, saw slight gains. The leading employment sector remained the private education and health sector, with 20,200 jobs.
