Roma gets green light for Assignon transfer from Rennes

Stade Rennes has reportedly given Roma the green light for Lorenz Assignon, who will arrive on loan with an interesting purchase option for 10 million euros.

According to several sources, including Sky Sport Italia and La Gazzetta dello Sport, the proposal was accepted by the Ligue 1 team.

The loan for one season amounts to around 1.5 million euros, plus a purchase option of a further 8.5 million euros, which comes into effect under certain conditions.

Assignon exonerates Roma

Rumour has it that the “conditions” are simply that Assignon makes his first competitive appearance in the Giallorossi jersey, which would be enough to activate the commitment to a permanent move.

It is essentially a hidden purchase obligation.

In addition, the new contract at the Stadio Olimpico will see Assignon double his current salary of €0.75 million per season.

He was keen to move to Roma, also because it would mean a reunion with his former Rennes teammate Enzo Le Fée.

The 24-year-old right-back was on loan to Burnley last season.
