Supreme Court takes cognizance of Kolkata rape and murder case, hearing on August 20

The Supreme Court has taken cognizance of the rape and murder of a doctor student at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

According to the August 20 case list uploaded on the Supreme Court website, a bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud is scheduled to hear a case titled ‘In Re: Alleged Rape and Murder Incident of a Female Assistant Doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata and Related Matter’ on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.

The Calcutta High Court recently transferred the investigation from the Calcutta Police to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
