Motherwell signs striker with ‘lots of potential’ after two-week trial

Striker Tony Watt joined the club on loan from Dundee United earlier this week and now the Fir Park side have added another attacker to their ranks.

Maswanhise made his career at Leicester City and impressed in the Foxes' youth teams, but was released in the summer and worked hard during his trial at Motherwell to earn a short-term contract.

“Tawanda has been on trial for a couple of weeks now,” Kettlewell said ahead of Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup match against Kilmarnock.

“We have been impressed with his effort every time he steps onto the training field. Last week he took part in the catch-up game against Everton and once again made a good impression.

“He offers us something very special. He is fast, direct and likes to score. Tawanda has a lot of potential and hopefully we can get the best out of him.”

Maswanhise, who has played three times for Zimbabwe, admits he is grateful that the Scottish Premiership side has given him the opportunity to showcase his talent.

“I’m just really happy to be in this position,” added the 21-year-old.

“This summer I worked hard and gave it my all. I was looking for an opportunity to show people what I can do and now I've got it.

“I feel good and ready to make a difference.”
