Shooting involving Buckeye police ends with suspect taken into custody

BUCKEYE, AZ (AZFamily) — An overnight shooting involving Buckeye police officers ended with the arrest of a suspect in connection with domestic violence, authorities say.

Authorities said that around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Buckeye police received a report from a woman who said her husband had a gun and was threatening to kill her at their home near the intersection of Miller Road and Burgess Lane. Officers arrived at the scene and found the woman as she was leaving the home.

However, police say the suspect, a man in his 50s, then came out and began shooting at officers. At least one officer returned fire, and the suspect went back into the house.

The building was blocked off for several hours until the suspect exited the building and was arrested around 1 a.m. The officers and suspect were not injured in the shooting.

Authorities say the suspect's name will be released once he is taken to prison.

This is the second police-involved shooting in the Valley in just a few days. On Friday, a man was shot by police after allegedly killing his stepfather in a Tempe trailer park.

Sunday's shooting is the 36th police-involved shooting in the Phoenix area this year and the 60th in the state in 2024.
