Chicago shooting: Suspect shot, 2 others injured in police-involved shooting on Blue Island Avenue, COPA investigates

CHICAGO (WLS) — The Civilian Office of Police Accountability in Chicago is investigating a police officer-involved shooting that left one man dead in Pilsen on Sunday.

COPA said the shooting occurred near the 1800 block of South Blue Island Avenue in the Pilsen neighborhood near Loomis Street.

According to Chicago police, officers heard several gunshots around 1:16 a.m. and encountered armed suspects.

Two CPD officers fired their weapons, shooting a man who police said had a gun. The suspect was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Chicago police found a pistol at the crime scene with the bolt in the locked position.

On Sunday, a woman and another man were also shot.

Chicago police said the suspect allegedly shot the two victims in a car before officers arrived.

Both were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Two officers were taken to a nearby hospital for observation. One officer suffered minor injuries.

The details of this incident, including a full investigation into the use of force, are being investigated by COPA, police said.

The officials concerned will be entrusted with routine administrative tasks for at least 30 days.

This is the second COPA investigation this weekend.

On Friday, a Chicago police officer opened fire during a traffic stop in the 1700 block of W. 47th Street.

The vehicle was wanted in connection with a murder. According to CPD, no one was hit by gunfire.
