Pune Porsche crash: Accused minor completed 15-day driving safety programme, says RTO official | News from India

The minor accused of killing two people in Pune on May 19 by driving his Porsche into a motorcycle while drunk has completed a 15-day safe driving programme on the court's orders, a Regional Transport Office (RTO) official said on Sunday.

The incident in the Indian state of Pune, Kalyani Nagar, left two IT professionals from Madhya Pradesh dead. The incident sparked widespread outrage across the country, partly because the accused was released on bail by the juvenile justice authority on lenient terms and because police investigations revealed that his relatives and some doctors had tried to cover up the crime.

While he was released on bail by the JJB, he was required to write a 300-word essay on road accidents and learn about traffic rules and regulations with the help of the RTO, among other things. “The juvenile accused has completed the RTO's driver safety programme. In accordance with the court's guidelines, the operation was carried out discreetly as it could have violated the youth's privacy,” said a senior RTO official.

“The training programme included road safety measures, importance of driving license, meaning of road signs and symbols and other activities. During the training, the youth was also taken for field training,” the official added. The minor has already submitted the 300-word essay, other officials said.
