Bebe Rexha claims she was banned from boarding a plane because of a “hate crime”

Bebe Rexha said she was threatened and barred from a flight after speaking to a security officer in Albania.

On Saturday, the 34-year-old pop singer, whose family is of Albanian and North Macedonian descent, posted a video of herself crying in her Instagram story in which she explains, according to several reports, why she was allegedly unable to board her Lufthansa flight.

“Lufthansa, I was threatened because I thought the security guard was Albanian. I spoke to him in Albanian and asked where to get my ticket and now he is banning me from flying,” she wrote over a clip explaining the situation.

The “Say My Name” singer further claimed that no female Lufthansa employees came to her aid during the incident, the New York Post reported.

“None of the women at Lufthansa intervened or said anything,” Rexha said. “He wouldn't give me his name. But I just found out he works for ATSG, a document control service provider contracted by Lufthansa.”

In a separate post, Rexha called the incident a “hate crime.”

“I believe this is a hate crime because I am Albanian,” she said. “He wouldn't let me take his name. He continued to abuse me psychologically to make me feel like I was more powerful than him.”

HuffPost has contacted Lufthansa and representatives of Rexha for comment.

In a follow-up post on Saturday, Rexha wrote that Lufthansa reached out to her following the incident.

“But I urge them to conduct a full investigation to find out who this man is who abused his power,” she added in her Instagram stories. “An 'I'm sorry' will not be enough this time.”

It is unclear whether Rexha was able to take another flight. According to the Post, the musician had traveled to the United States from Munich International Airport.

In July 2023, Rexha hit in the face by a cell phone which was thrown onto the stage from the crowd during her concert in New York City. She was taken to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Rexha later posted an update on TikTok, which shows her with a black eye and bandages on her eyebrow. “I'm fine guys 💖,” she wrote under her post.
