According to police, witnesses told officers that the driver fled north toward downtown before being arrested in the 1200 block of Jefferson Street.

A preliminary investigation revealed that domestic violence had occurred at a nightclub in the area, but that it had been broken up by security personnel, police said.

According to police, when the driver left the nightclub, he began to drive around, colliding with several vehicles and intentionally trying to run over his partner with the vehicle. However, he missed his target and hit a passerby instead.

The victim, a woman and manager of a local nightclub, was on her way home and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect is in custody, police said.
