Waynesburg man allegedly stole a woman's truck and ran her over

LINCOLN COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — A Waynesburg man is facing charges after allegedly coming to a woman's home, stealing her truck and running her over with it.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that officers were dispatched to the Cemetery Road area in Waynesburg just before noon Saturday on a report of a man who “stole a vehicle and ran over a woman.”

While en route to the scene of the accident, Bluegrass 911 officers learned that 58-year-old Sherril “Chemo” Padgett of Waynesburg had called and allegedly informed the emergency dispatcher of his whereabouts.

Authorities said Padgett allegedly tried to elude police while traveling on U.S. 27. Officers were eventually able to catch up with him near the Somerset city limits.

A man named Padgett was arrested; an investigation revealed that Padgett had originally gone to a woman's home in the Cemetery Road area, according to the sheriff's office.

Authorities said Padgett went into the woman's home and took the keys to her truck. When the woman tried to take the keys back from him, a “scuffle” ensued.

According to officers, “Padgett gained control of the truck when the woman attempted to take the keys from him and prevent him from taking the truck.” This allegedly led to Padgett running over the woman's legs as he left the house in the stolen truck.

The woman's injuries were treated on site.
