Labor Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled” Campaign Underway, Checkpoint Planned – Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced plans for the Drive sober or get stopped Campaign that runs now through Labor Day, September 2, 2024. The campaign is coordinated and funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.

As part of the campaign, LPSO officers will conduct a DWI stop on the evening of August 20, 2024, lasting into the early hours of the following morning. During the DWI stop, officers will be on the lookout for potentially impaired drivers while also paying attention to other traffic safety issues, including seat belt use. Additionally, additional officers will be assigned to intensive patrol operations to specifically identify impaired drivers and ensure motorist safety.

Remember, there is no refusal allowed in Lafourche Parish, so if a suspected drunk driver refuses to take a breathalyzer test, officers will apply for a search warrant to have that person's blood tested. Sheriff Webre reminds everyone to designate a driver when you go out drinking. Make a plan for how you will get home BEFORE you leave the house.
