Rakshabandhan celebrations: City jails keep sweets for Rakshabandhan celebrations | Ludhiana News

Ludhiana: To celebrate Rakshabandhan, the Inmates the central, juvenile and women’s prisons of this city, in addition to the observation homes, their siblings and parents on Monday.
The sisters of inmates in the Central Prison are permitted to visit them from 8am to 1.30pm and then from 3pm to 5pm. In the Borstal Prison, visiting hours are from 9am to 12pm and from 3pm to 5pm. In the Women's Prison, visiting hours are from 9am to 5pm. Prison governors are mandated to provide the necessary seating and security arrangements and to provide visiting families with: sweets.
Vijay Kumar, superintendent of the women's prison, said, “We have women inmates, so their brothers come. Mostly they bring rakhis, but if not, we give them some along with sweets. The festival celebrations can be extended depending on the crowd.”
Central Jail Deputy Superintendent Balbeer Singh said that due to space constraints, preparations for Raksha Bandhan celebrations would be held at Mulaqat Ghar. The rakhis brought by the sisters will have to go through scanners. There will be 'mishri' for the inmates and their sisters.
Borstal Jail Superintendent Gurpreet Singh said that besides sweets, there will also be adequate seating for the inmates and their sisters. In the juvenile home, only parents will be allowed to meet the inmates. Superintendent Kanwaljit Singh Gill said, “We have not received any instructions regarding Raksha Bandhan.”
