Buccaneers release DE Randy Gregory after extended absence

Randy Gregory's time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is over before it even really began.

Bucs head coach Todd Bowles confirmed Sunday that the team released Gregory after he failed to show up for training camp, but the coach said he still has no reason for the defensive end's absence.

“No, I never found out,” Bowles said, according to team minutes. “I wish him the best. We'll go from there. You can't miss what you never had.”

Bowles' comments on the matter were brief, just like Gregory's tenure with the Bucs.

The veteran pass rusher signed with the team in April but was placed on the reserve list or undeclared player list on July 23.

Gregory sued the NFL and the Denver Broncos in June for a $500,000 fine over THC use, which he considered therapeutic.

Gregory, 31, was selected in the second round of the 2015 Dallas Cowboys draft and has played for the Broncos and San Francisco 49ers over the past two seasons.
