Two people charged with baby's murder | News

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Two people have been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse following the death of a baby, Memphis police said.

At approximately 3 a.m. on Saturday, Memphis police received a call that a 1-year-old had gone into cardiac arrest at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital. The incident occurred at approximately 2:39 a.m. on Saturday, according to court records.

Both Dejon Smith and Kiya Moore had been babysitting since around 5 p.m. Thursday.

A doctor at the hospital declared the baby dead at 4:01 a.m. Saturday morning.

An examination of the baby's body revealed that he had a skull and neck fracture, massive bruising on his back and a rectal hemorrhage, police said.

Both Dejon Smith and Kiya Moore were arrested and taken to 170 N Main St. for further processing.
