Spider-Verse 3 Gets Discouraging Release Update (Report)

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (Spider-Verse 3) seems to be quite far from its release according to a disappointing update.

2023 Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse was a huge success for Sony Pictures and was the second most successful film of the year behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

This left fans eagerly awaiting the release of the third film, especially since it was originally scheduled to be released a record-breaking 301 days after its predecessor.

Unfortunately, this is no longer the case, and Beyond the Spider-VerseThe prospects for a release timeline are getting worse and worse.

Discouraging release update for Spider-Verse 3

According to a recent report from The Cosmic Circus, Sony Pictures is far from ready to Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Versethe third film in the animated Miles Morales/Spider-Vers Trilogy.

In a Q&A session on the site's Discourse channel, Cosmic Circus journalist Alex Perez noted that the release of this sequel might not be possible for another two or three years:

“They're working hard on it and I'm hearing a lot of cool things about it. As for a possible release, I've heard it's still 2-3 years away.”

This happens more than a year after Beyond the Spider-Verse The release date of March 29, 2024 was canceled because Sony postponed the film indefinitely.

When will Spider-Verse 3 be released?

Considering that between the releases of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse And Spider-Man: Through the Spider-VerseThis development is not exactly surprising. Gwen Stacy star Hailee Steinfeld even revealed that she had not yet started recording her lines for the third chapter in June 2023.

In December, producer Chris Miller said the team was “neck-deep” in discussing the production schedule, giving hope that things were slowly getting underway.

He and co-executive producer Phil Lord had previously stated that the film would not be released in theaters until “when it's finished”, shows how important it is to them to get the last part of this trilogy right.

Musician D4VD (aka David Anthony Burke) also gave a potentially exciting preview of the film’s April release, seemingly hinting that Spider-Verse 3 would be ready for release sometime in 2025. However, this update seems to push the release date back even further.

Star Karan Soni told Times Entertainment in August 2024 that the shooting would begin “in a few months” This means that work may not begin until late this year or early next year.

With these updates in mind, it would seemingly be impossible for the film to be completed before 2026, with shooting and animation still pending. Sony may even want to push completion until 2027 to ensure it is as good as possible.

Fortunately, Sony Pictures and Lord and Miller seem to be confident that the wait will be more than worth it for fans whenever the film finally hits theaters.
