BJP tries to gain political advantage from the incident of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor: Congress MP Tariq Anwar

Reacting to the nationwide protests against the rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata and the BJP's subsequent allegations that the TMC government was anti-women, Tariq Anwar, Congress MP and MP for Katihar district in Bihar, said that every time such incidents occur, the BJP tries to make political capital out of them.

Tariq Anwar said, “The incident of rape and murder is very tragic and should be condemned. But it should not be given a political background. It is the weakness of the BJP and JP Nadda that every time there is an incident of this kind where solidarity is called for, they try to make political capital out of it. Since the case is under the jurisdiction of the CBI, it is the jurisdiction of the central government and the culprits should be nabbed quickly.”

Earlier, BJP leader and Union Health Minister JP Nadda had said that the state had become misogynistic, anti-youth and anti-democratic under the Trinamool Congress government.

Nadda attacked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying she had failed the people of the state by leading a government that had looted with impunity.

In a social media post on X, JP Nadda wrote, “West Bengal under the TMC is ENEMY OF WOMEN, YOUTH and DEMOCRACY. The Chief Minister has failed the people of the state by presiding over a government that has looted with impunity. The iron grip has clearly rusted, and horribly so.”

Commenting on the alleged humiliation of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren and speculations that he might quit the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) party and join another party, Tariq Anwar said he must understand that the BJP wants to field him in the upcoming assembly elections. He said, “He should have seen the circumstances under which he became the chief minister and when Hemant Soren returned, Champai Soren had no reason to continue as chief minister. Everyone knew that Hemant Soren would retain his post after his return. Champai Soren must understand that the BJP wants to field him in the upcoming assembly elections.” Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren said he felt “insulted” during his tenure and that “all options are open” for him till the upcoming assembly elections in Jharkhand.

He cited several instances in which he was barred from convening a legislative party meeting and was suddenly asked to resign, prompting him to “look for an alternative way”.

In a long post on X, Champai Soren stressed that he has always been concerned with public concerns in politics, from championing the interests of workers against industrial corporations at the beginning of his career to supporting the Jharkhand movement.”

“Recently, after Hal Diwas, I came to know that the party leadership had postponed all my programmes for the next two days. One of them was a public meeting in Dumka and the other was distribution of appointment letters to PGT teachers. When I enquired, I was informed that the coalition had called a legislative party meeting on July 3 and I could not attend any programme as CM till then,” Soren said.
