Irish hitchhiker claims he inspired Dave Grohl to 'get back to work' and form the Foo Fighters

While Dave Grohl promoted his 2021 book The Storyteller: Stories from Life and MusicHe told a memorable story To The New Yorker of meeting an Irish hitchhiker wearing a Nirvana t-shirt who inspired him to start making new music again after Kurt Cobain's suicide. This Irish hitchhiker has now come forward to share his memories of the mythical incident. Lorcan Dunne's story has was shared on Xwhere he recalls hitchhiking with friends and seeing Grohl on the street. Dunne didn't recognize him at first and never got a ride with Grohl because the “car just sped away.”

But the interaction left an impression on Grohl and inspired him to get back into music. “I was driving my rental car down a country road and I saw this hitchhiker. As I got closer, I saw he was wearing a Kurt Cobain T-shirt,” Grohl tells his story. “It was Kurt's face looking at me in the middle of nowhere. And I realized I can't escape this, so I need to get home and get the hell back to work. And that's what I did.” (Consequence of sound)
