Prime suspect arrested in investigation into shooting involving deputy sheriff | Arizona news

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – Tucson police announced Sunday morning that the suspect in the shooting involving a deputy last week is now in custody.

According to TPD, Gabriel Angel Altamirano was arrested after an extensive manhunt involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

At Altamirano's first court appearance tonight, it was announced that he is being held in the Pima County Jail on $1.5 million bail.

Altamirano was reportedly arrested on two warrants.

The charges in the first warrant include attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault, first-degree burglary and possession of a deadly weapon by an unlawful possessor.

The charges in the second warrant include two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, first-degree burglary of a habitation, disorderly conduct and displaying a weapon or dangerous object.

The shooting occurred just before 10 a.m. Tuesday morning when officers responded to a domestic violence incident near the 5000 block of West Jeffrey Road.

According to TPD, two men were attempting to flee the residence in their car when they collided with another car near Jeffrey and Camino De Oeste.

The two men ran from the car when a PCSD officer was struck by gunfire. According to TPD, the officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Banner UMC.

Both men continued to flee the area, and the suspect who shot the deputy has been at large since the shooting.
