Rohtak PGIMS student claims assault, accused arrested

Chandigarh, August 19 (SocialNews.XYZ) Amid nationwide protests against the murder and rape of a junior doctor in Kolkata, a dental student at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak, Haryana, has alleged that she was abducted and assaulted by a junior doctor.

The police filed a complaint and arrested the accused.




Deputy Commissioner of Police Virendra Singh said a first-year BDS student filed a complaint on Sunday evening alleging that she was abducted and assaulted by the doctor, an anatomy student.

The PGIMS reacted quickly, expelled the accused doctor and banned him from entering the university premises.

According to the prosecution, the accused kidnapped her from PGIMS and took her to Ambala and Chandigarh where he abused her. Police said that no evidence of sexual harassment or rape has come to light during the investigation so far.

In a video posted on X, the victim can be seen crying and showing the wounds on her body caused by the alleged physical attack.

In the video, she claimed that the resident had been harassing her for the past seven months. She also claimed that the accused had threatened her with dire consequences if she raised the issue with the university administration.

A spokesperson of the University of Health Sciences told the media that the accused, Maninder Kaushik, a resident of anatomy at PGIMS, had been expelled from the institution and banned from the campus.

According to a post by Rohtak police on X on Monday, “The accused doctor was immediately arrested in the case of assault on a medical student. The sexual harassment case has not come to light in the girl's statement and investigation. The accused doctor and the student have known each other for several months. A high-level investigation is being conducted taking into account all aspects.”

Earlier, the police had said that the incident of assault on a student of PGIMS Rohtak was reported to the police by the PGIMS authorities on Saturday evening.

“Upon being informed, senior police officials immediately responded and reached PGIMS Rohtak and contacted the victim and her family,” it said.
