Louis O'Regan dies after accident in qualifying

A competitor was killed in an accident during the opening qualifying round for the 2024 Manx Grand Prix, organizers confirmed.

Irish rider Louis O'Regan succumbed to his injuries after crashing at Kate's Cottage on the mountain section of the 60km course at around 16:50 BST.

The 43-year-old, who lives in Didcot, England, made his debut at the event in 2013, finishing 12th in the Newcomers A Race.

In a statement, race organizers “express their deepest condolences to Louis' partner Sarah, his family, relatives and friends.”

The first qualifying was not resumed because Red Flag Incident.

The organisers' statement read: “It is with great sadness that the organisers of the Manx Grand Prix can confirm that 43-year-old Louis O'Regan has died as a result of injuries sustained in an accident at Kate's Cottage during the first qualifying heat for the 2024 event.

“Louis, an Irishman living in Didcot, England, was an experienced Manx Grand Prix competitor who made his debut in the 2013 Newcomers A Race, finishing 12th.

“He achieved his personal best lap speed at the Junior Race 2019 with an average speed of 184.6 km/h.

“We extend our deepest condolences to Louis' partner Sarah, as well as his family, relatives and friends.”
