Marte joins Walker and Moreno on the Diamondbacks' injured list

Ketel Marte entered the Arizona Diamondbacks injury list is getting longer on Sunday after an unfortunate fall in 8:7 defeat on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field.

Marte missed the first two games of the series against Tampa Bay and the one before that against the Colorado Rockies after suffering an injury to the left ankle in a collision with Catcher Garrett Stubbs during a game at second base against the Philadelphia PhilliesHe aggravated the injury with a hit in the first inning during last Monday’s game and underwent an MRI scan The picture showed a slight sprain, but no serious injuries.

The infielder came into the game on Sunday as a pinch hitter and faced the reliever Pete Fairbanks in the ninth inning, but his ankle seemed to give way After a check swing he fell to the ground. Marte was led off the field by the D-backs medical staff.

Lovullo regrets having brought Marte back too early

“I have no updates”, said manager Torey Lovullo afterwards. “[He’s] is being evaluated now. Nothing more than what we saw originally. It didn't look good. He generates a lot of force when he pushes off the ground. A very strong man. It just got him. We probably need to reassess the situation and figure out how quickly we can get him back. I would never have brought him into the game if I had had the feeling that something like yesterday would happen. Of course I regret it, and I wish I had given him an extra day“.

It is another setback for Arizona, which is already without a first baseman. Christian Walker (overstrained left oblique abdominal muscle) and catcher Gabriel Moreno (overstretching of the left adductor).

The Diamondbacks face the Miami Marlins at LoanDepot Park on Monday, August 19, at 6:40 p.m. ET / 3:40 p.m. PT.
