Triple fatal crash on Route 101 in Candia, NH identified – NECN

Authorities have released the names of three people killed in a head-on collision on Route 101 in New Hampshire over the weekend.

According to state police, the accident occurred around 12:20 p.m. in the area of Mile 69 in Candia and resulted in the highway being closed for several hours.

Troopers determined that the driver of a Toyota Tundra was traveling eastbound on Route 101 at a high rate of speed when he struck the side of a Nissan Sentra, struck a railing on the east side, and crossed the median into the westbound lane, where he collided head-on with a Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

Both the Toyota and Jeep drivers succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident, and a passenger in the Jeep was taken to Elliot Hospital in Manchester, where he later died.

State police identified the driver of the Toyota on Monday as 59-year-old Michael Wescott of Greenville. The driver of the Jeep was identified as 77-year-old Richard Courville and the passenger as 65-year-old Denise Courville, both of North Hampton.

State police said the driver and passenger of the sideswiped Nissan suffered non-life-threatening injuries. They were taken to Elliot Hospital as a precaution and were previously identified as 57-year-old Timothy McMahon and 18-year-old Kelly McMahon, both of Peterborough.

The accident is still under investigation, but state police previously said speed appears to have played a role.

Anyone who witnessed the accident and has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact Trooper Will Bohnenberger at 603-223-4381 or via email at [email protected].
