Grand Forks police arrest man after escape incident

(KNOX) – Officers with the Grand Forks Police Department assisted a Trail County Deputy and North Dakota Highway Patrol officers in the pursuit of a fleeing motor vehicle.

During the incident, the suspect's vehicle struck a Grand Forks Sheriff's Department patrol vehicle, causing the suspect's vehicle to spin out of control and come to a stop at the intersection of Cherry St. and 28th Ave S. after colliding with a Grand Forks Police Department patrol vehicle.

The driver of the suspect vehicle, one Shawn Bjerke, was arrested for the following offenses: reckless endangerment, fleeing with a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a license, and driving under the influence.

Bjerke was transported to Grand Forks Correctional Center after being treated for minor injuries at Altru Hospital. The Grand Forks Police Department was assisted by CART in investigating the accident scene.
