Alcohol and speed played a role in accident that resulted in the death of a 19-year-old

MIDLAND Co., Michigan (WNEM) – Alcohol and speed were factors in a crash that killed a 19-year-old Lee Township man, Midland County Sheriff Myron Greene said.

The accident occurred around 1 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, near the intersection of W. Chippewa River Road and S. Magruder Road in Greendale Township.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 19-year-old Lee Township man was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on W. Chippewa River Road when he failed to negotiate a curve. The truck left the road and struck a utility pole and trees, Greene said.

The passenger, another 19-year-old man from Lee Township, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics, Greene said. He was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in death.

There is evidence that alcohol and speed played a role in the accident, Greene said.
