Floresville High School counselor arrested and accused of hitting child

FLORESVILLE, Texas – A Floresville Independent School District counselor was arrested and charged with child injury following her arraignment in Comal County.

Heather Maire Dubose was taken into custody Thursday, more than eight months after she was indicted by a grand jury in Comal County.

According to the Floresville ISD website, Dubose works as a high school counselor.

According to the indictment obtained by KSAT on Monday, DuBose is accused of striking a child under the age of 14 with an object described as a pencil holder or cup in May 2021.

Court records classify the charge as a felony punishable by prison time.

KSAT contacted Floresville ISD about DuBose’s arrest.

The district subsequently issued a statement claiming that the child was not a Floresville ISD student and that the district was not involved in the incident.

The statement said the district was cooperating with law enforcement.

FISD's communications specialist told KSAT on Friday that Dubose is still employed by the district and any action taken will depend on the results of the investigation.

Dubose was taken to the Wilson County Jail and her bail was set at $5,000.

As of Monday afternoon, Wilson County Jail officials had not released a copy of her mug shot.
