Larian has released a teaser for the new evil endings coming in the next patch of Baldur's Gate 3, and they really weren't kidding about the evil part

Next month, Baldur's Gate 3 will receive its highly anticipated Patch 7, which adds dynamic split-screen in co-op play, an official modding toolkit, and – most importantly for some unrepentant lunatics among you – expanded and improved endings for evil characters. Today, Larian posted a new teaser for one of Dark Urge's new evil endings, and who would have thought: it seems pretty dark!

In the 52-second video, we see the Dark Urge as their albino Dragonborn standing high above a destroyed Baldur's Gate on the subjugated Netherbrain after the game's decisive final confrontation – a confrontation that presumably ended with the Dark Urge taking control of the Netherbrain and the Cult of the Absolute.

The Dark Urge turns to face them, where three of their companions stand—in this case, Shadowheart, Lae'zel, and Wyll. The Dark Urge raises and clenches a fist, creating the telltale psionic pulse of illithid rule around the heads of their companions. Commanding his companions through the linked netherbrain, the Dark Urge waves his fist to point at the burning city below, forcing them to approach the edge of the platform. As the companions stare helplessly at the abyss, the Dark Urge gently opens his hand, almost in a welcoming gesture.

The camera pulls back to show the three companions falling to their deaths without saying a word. “Time for the final act,” says the narrator as the Dark Urge takes its place at the edge. “Their tragedy has become the tragedy of humanity.” The video ends with the Dark Urge leaning forward to prepare for its own fall.

If it were up to me, I simply wouldn't sacrifice myself and three of my companions in a ritual triple murder-suicide to, I suppose, take Bhaal's place as the avatar of murder incarnate. I'm more into the opposite of that. But I won't deny that the teaser cinematic is really well choreographed: “The Dark Urge” has an eerie serenity that's made all the more unsettling by the sharp violin tones of the soundtrack and the fact that a bunch of motionless mind flayers are floating listlessly in the distance.

Based on the glimpses Larian has already given of the new evil endings, I can only assume it gets even more disturbing from there. It almost makes you want to invest another six dozen hours or so into a new BG3 playthrough.

Patch 7 is scheduled to be released for Baldur's Gate 3 sometime in September.
