One woman killed, another in custody after accident in Coon Rapids

One woman is dead and another is in custody after a collision between a pickup truck and an SUV in Coon Rapids on Sunday.

What we know

According to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, authorities responded to a crash at the intersection of Coon Rapids Boulevard Northwest and Springbrook Drive Northwest just before 9 p.m.

According to authorities, a man driving an SUV with a female passenger was traveling east on Coon Rapids Boulevard Northwest when he attempted to turn left onto Springbrook Drive.

A woman driving a pickup truck towing a trailer was traveling westbound on Coon Rapids Boulevard when she collided with the SUV as it was turning left.

The SUV's passenger received medical treatment at the scene and was taken to the hospital, where she eventually died, police officials said. The SUV's driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck was arrested at the scene, but no charges were filed against her.

What we don’t know

Authorities did not name the woman who was killed. They also did not say why the driver of the pickup truck was taken into custody or whether driving under the influence of alcohol played a role in the crash.

The condition of the driver involved in the accident is currently unknown.
