AAA: Gasoline prices in Tennessee rise by one cent

Gasoline prices rose six cents early last week, but began to fall again midweek and over the weekend. We start the week just a cent more expensive than last week. The average price of gasoline in Tennessee is now $3.02, which is 11 cents less than a month ago and 46 cents less than a year ago.

“The volatility in crude oil prices is likely the cause of the fluctuating pump prices we are seeing in Tennessee,” said Megan Cooper, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “More pump price fluctuations cannot be ruled out this week, but the good news is that Tennessee has the fourth cheapest average price of gasoline in the country and six of our metropolitan areas still have average prices under $3 per gallon.”

National gas prices

The national average price for a gallon of gasoline was $3.41, down three cents from last week.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand rose slightly last week to 9.04 from 8.96 million barrels per day. At the same time, total domestic gasoline inventories fell to 222.2 million barrels from 225.1 million barrels. Gasoline production fell slightly last week, averaging 9.7 million barrels per day. Weak gasoline demand and stable oil prices could lead to further price declines at the pump.

The national average price for a gallon of gasoline today is $3.41, nine cents less than a month ago and 45 cents less than a year ago.
