Former TCU QB Max Duggan released by Los Angeles Chargers

TCU legend Max Duggan was unable to find a permanent spot on the Chargers' roster and was released from the team on Monday, August 19. After the preseason, new head coach Jim Harbaugh retained Easton Stick and Luis Perez as quarterback two and three, respectively, for Justin Herbert.

The former TCU quarterback made his 2024 preseason debut against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday, August 17. Despite falling five points short of a win, he completed four of seven pass attempts for 41 yards.

After being drafted by the Chargers in 2023, he struggled to stay on the roster. He was released from the team on August 28, 2023, but was re-signed to the practice squad two days later. He was released again on December 28, and re-signed to the active roster four days later. On January 9, 2024, Duggan was placed on a reserve/future roster to compete for a spot as a backup, which resulted in him not finding a spot to date.

Duggan's future in the NFL is in the hands of other teams since he is on waivers. It's notable that Duggan was released by the Chargers when Harbaugh arrived, as the last time Duggan was on the field with him was at the 2022 Fiesta Bowl.
