Jury selection begins in trial of Indio man accused of murdering Mecca resident

Jury selection began Monday in the trial of an Indian Springs man accused of murdering a Mecca man in 2018.

According to case files, Coachella police arrested Gilbert Martinez, now 36, in Coachella in 2019.

Martinez was identified as a suspect after Hugo Nunez was shot multiple times in the 91-000 block of Fifth Street in Mecca on April 8, 2018, the sheriff's department said. Nunez died after being taken to a hospital.
