2 Rapid City residents arrested for alleged killing of 7-week-old baby

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – Two Rapid City people suspected of killing a seven-week-old baby are in Pennington County Jail.

According to the Pennington County Sheriff's Office, 26-year-old Shamar “Tay” Bennett was arrested on Monday, August 19, outside an apartment on Anamosa Street in Rapid City.

Courtney Ann Martinez Martin, 27, was booked into jail last Thursday.

Both Bennett and Martinez Martin are charged with second-degree murder and child abuse. Their charges state the incident occurred in November 2022.

Martinez Martin made her first court appearance last Friday and is being held on $1 million bail, according to the Pennington County Detention Center.
