Maalik Murphy, who is transferring from the Texas Longhorns, reportedly secures the job as starting quarterback at Duke

It is safe to say that without Maalik Murphy, the Texas Longhorns may not have made the 2023 College Football Playoffs.

Murphy filled in for the injured Quinn Ewers and won two games for the Longhorns last season (against BYU and a thriller against Kansas State). But with Ewers returning in 2024, Murphy transferred to Duke to find an opportunity to play full-time.

According to a report from ESPN, he got that chance. The former Longhorn has been named the Blue Devils' starting quarterback as Duke begins a new era under coach Manny Diaz. Duke is seeing a lot of changes this season, with coach Mike Elko moving on to Texas A&M and last year's quarterback Riley Leonard moving on to Notre Dame.
