The parents of the ten dead and 13 injured sued the ammunition supplier Pagourtzis and his parents Antonios Pagourtzis and Rose Marie Kosmetatos on the grounds that they had not noticed the signs of their son's increasing psychosis and had not stored their weapons safely.

According to the jury, his parents were not legally guilty.

However, they argued on Friday that the case was primarily about sending a message to the world that the people of the United States are taking action to prevent school shootings.

The plaintiffs argued that Dimitrios Pagourtzis was responsible for the shooting, as were his parents, Rose Marie Kosmetatos and Antonios Pagourtzis, because they failed to recognize and treat their son's psychosis and failed to secure their weapons. According to the witnesses' testimony, they argued that the ammunition supplier Lucky Gunner illegally sold ammunition to minors.

According to testimony, defense attorneys argued that Antonios Pagourtzis and Kosmetatos could not have recognized the signs of their son's simmering psychosis and did everything a reasonable gun owner would do to secure their weapons.
