MIAMI – A woman who says she is a psychologist appeared before a Miami-Dade judge Monday on charges of attempting to lure a 15-year-old girl into human trafficking in southwest Miami-Dade.

“I'm a psychologist and I have a doctorate. I'm going to lose my license and my life. I need help. I didn't even touch or kiss that girl,” said 45-year-old Maria Duarte as she appeared before Judge Mindy Glazer.

According to police, Duarte met the girl while she was walking her dog near a hotel.

Officials said the woman used her position to gain the girl's trust and then offered her alcohol and marijuana.

According to investigators, Duarte tried to pressure the victim into having sex with at least two men.

Duarte is accused of trading sex for drugs to satisfy her addiction.

They face several charges, including human trafficking.
