TikToker ends up in hospital after trying viral cucumber salad trend

A TikToker has issued a warning about the viral cucumber salad trend after she tried the recipe and ended up in the hospital.

Cucumber salads have been trending on TikTok after Logan Moffitt, aka the “Cucumber Guy,” went viral with his recipes. However, in his videos, he often uses a mandoline to slice the vegetable into thin pieces, which can cause injury if handled improperly.

Australian TikToker Bec “bechardgrave” Hardgrave learned this the hard way when she shared on the app how recreating a popular cucumber salad led to a visit to the emergency room.

In the short clip, she is seen thinly slicing a cucumber with a mandolin. It then quickly cuts to footage of her in hospital with a bandage wrapped around her hand.

“I didn't put the clip on TikTok because I didn't want the clip to be flagged, but afterward I cut my hand on this mandolin,” she told her viewers. “Here's a warning for everyone.

“I had just bought the mandolin at K-Mart and hadn't opened the box all the way, but it comes with a protector – so that won't happen,” Bec added, pointing to her bandaged hand.

“No stitches because it's too wide to sew. He said if I had brought the skin he could have sewn it onto my hand, so I just have to wait.”

She ended her video by saying, “Just don't use the mandolin,” before her partner interrupted by saying, “Just use the guard.” Bec then noted that Logan “hasn't been using the guard in his videos.”

TikTok users shared their thoughts in the comments, with one writing: “Every mandolin video makes me so nervous. Coming from someone who cut themselves badly when the guard came off.”

Another person said: “I'm a restaurant worker and I've seen many people cut their hands while slicing tomatoes with a mandoline. Always use the guard! I'm always so scared.”
