Passenger trailer creates an atmospheric crime mystery

His house and “Lovecraft Country” star Wunmi Mosaku investigates a disappearance in the upcoming crime series “Passenger” which will be released on BritBox in October. The streaming service today unveiled a new “Passenger” trailer that highlights the atmospheric strangeness of the setting.

Premiere of “Passenger” 17 October on BritBox with a special screening and panel at New York Comic Con. The six-part mystery piece will air two episodes every Thursday until the finale on October 31.

The upcoming limited series comes from the creator Andrew Buchan (“Broadchurch”, “Carnival Row”), marking the actor’s screenwriting debut.

It “explores a close-knit community unwilling to face its fears of change, of outsiders, and of the unknown. In the fictional small northern town of Chadder Vale, former detective Riya Ajunwa (Wunmi Mosaku) investigates a series of strange and inexplicable crimes that have the townspeople in turmoil. Riya came to run-down Chadder Vale five years ago and has been searching for that “one big crime,” the challenge that will make her feel alive again. Then one night, local girl Katie Wells (Rowan Robinson) mysteriously disappears.

“The town barely has time to register her absence before she reappears the next day, seemingly unharmed and safe. The townspeople ask few questions and life goes on as normal. But for Riya, an outsider to life in Chadder Vale, none of this is right. As a series of strange occurrences and increasingly shocking crimes begin to unfold in the town, residents resort to short-sighted theories, blaming outside influences like the fracking plant and its manager, Jim Bracknell (David Threlfall). As things get stranger and stranger, people push back against Riya's absurd notion that there is something wrong with this town. But what are they so afraid of?”

Barry Sloane (“Revenge”), David Threlfall (“Shameless”) and Robert Robinson (A ghost in Venice) also star in the atmospheric crime drama.

The series is executive produced by Lucy Dyke and Simon Maloney for Northern Sister, Jane Featherstone for Sister, Reemah Sakaan and Stephen Nye for BritBox International and ITV head of drama Polly Hill has commissioned the series for ITVX and ITV1.
