Motorcyclist injured in collision with SUV

SCOTTSBLUFF, Nebraska (KNOP) – Scottsbluff police are investigating the cause of a crash that left one person in critical condition Monday.

According to police, a 24-year-old man was riding his motorcycle eastbound on 27th Street when he collided with an SUV that was exiting the Dairy Queen parking lot and turning west onto 27th Street.

The motorcyclist was taken by ambulance to Regional West Medical Center in critical condition.

The investigation is ongoing, but police believe excessive speed was a factor in the accident.

Anyone with video of the accident is asked to submit it to the Scottsbluff Police Department. Reports will be forwarded to the Scotts Bluff County District Attorney's Office for consideration of possible criminal charges after the investigation is complete.

In light of the high number of speeding violations this summer, officials would like to remind the public of the following regulation:

§ 22-2-61 Unauthorized speed; right of way; loss.

The driver of any vehicle traveling at an unlawful speed will lose any right of way that he or she would otherwise have under city ordinances.

The Scottsbluff Fire Department, Valley Ambulance Services and the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Office responded to the accident.
