British Basketball SEC schedule released; When they play against Coach Cal

The 2024-25 college basketball season is still months away, but the University of Kentucky has released its SEC schedule for the coming year, including the date for coach John Calipari to return to Rupp Arena. Kentucky opens its season on Nov. 4 against Wright State University at Rupp Arena, but the Wildcats don't begin SEC play until Jan. 4, when they host the Florida Gators. Here's Kentucky's full conference schedule:Jan. 4 vs. FloridaJan. 7/8 at GeorgiaJan. 11 at Mississippi StateJan. 14/15 vs. Texas A&MJan. 18 vs. AlabamaJan. 25 at VanderbiltJan. 28 at TennesseeFebruary 1 vs. Arkansas (and coach Cal)February 4/5 at Ole MissFebruary 8 vs. South CarolinaFebruary 11/12 vs. TennesseeFebruary 15 at TexasFebruary 18/19 vs. VanderbiltFebruary 22 at AlabamaFeb. 25/26 at Oklahoma March vs. AuburnMarch 4/5 vs. LSUMMarch 8 at MissouriThe game many are looking forward to is Feb. 1, when Kentucky hosts Arkansas. For coach John Calipari, it will be the first return to Rupp Arena since he left as UK's head coach earlier this year. Calipari was announced as Arkansas' new head coach on April 10, ending his 15-year run with the Wildcats. His time at UK ended in frustration for him and his fans, as Kentucky hasn't made the Final Four since 2015. In his final four seasons at UK, the team posted a negative record in 2021, lost in the first round to No. 15 St. Peter's in 2022, was eliminated in the second round in 2022 and suffered a devastating loss to No. 14 Oakland in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. Whether BBN is ready to put its problems behind it so quickly, only time will tell. Leading the Wildcats this season will be Mark Pope, who was named the new head coach on April 12. Pope was the captain of UK's 1996 national championship-winning team and held head coaching jobs at BYU and Utah State before taking the role at Kentucky. Other notable matchups for the Wildcats this season include their trips to Texas and Oklahoma, recent additions to the SEC. Before UK begins conference play in January, the Wildcats will play Duke in the Champions Classic on November 12, Clemson in the SEC/ACC Challenge on December 3 and their in-state rival Louisville on December 14.
