Sexual assault case against former Killeen ISD teacher dropped

Makalani Jones was arrested in Gaston County, North Carolina, in May 2023 and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, police said.

An attorney representing Jones sent six news documents showing that the case against Jones was dismissed on August 13, 2024, following a motion to dismiss by the Bell County District Attorney's Office.

According to the documents, the motion to dismiss was filed because the prosecution was “unable to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt at this time.”

“The case presented a multitude of issues, some of which were independent reasons why this alleged attack could not have occurred,” Stephen Casey of Casey Law Firm explained in an email to 6 News.

According to Killeen ISD, Jones was an employee at Alice W. Douse Elementary School from August 2, 2022, to December 16, 2022. He reportedly did not return after the Christmas break and resigned from the school district on January 13, 2023, according to the school district.

KISD said it received a “complaint” on Feb. 6, but did not provide details on what the complaint was. The district said at the time that it was working with Killeen police and the Bell County District Attorney's Office on the matter.
