49ers give negative injury update on Jon Feliciano

At almost every press conference of the San Francisco 49ers, Kyle Shanahan, he gives an update on a player’s injury.

That trend continued on Tuesday when he announced negative injury news about veteran offensive lineman Jon Feliciano. He has been missing practice for some time due to a knee injury and was originally scheduled to be a week-to-week starter. Feliciano will now undergo surgery and will be unavailable for the start of the season.

“He had to have surgery, I don't know exactly what surgery he had, but something was done and he'll probably start on the injured list and I hope he'll be back around the middle of the year,” Shanahan said.

Well, this is brutal news. Feliciano had to go week-to-week recovering from his knee injury, then had to undergo surgery and was possibly placed on the injured list. The details of his knee injury are still unclear. For some reason, Shanahan continues to act like he doesn't know about it.

In any case, Feliciano will not be available to the 49ers for the next few months. This is a small downer for the 49ers. Feliciano was a solid player last season when the 49ers needed him at left or right guard due to injuries to their starters. He would then retain his role as starting guard after proving to be an improvement over Spencer Burford.

Rookie Dominick Puni is set to start at right guard, meaning Feliciano will drop back into his swing role. However, due to his injury, it looks like Burford will take over the role once he recovers from his broken hand, as it's all but certain he won't be in the starting lineup this year.

Injuries continue to plague the 49ers, especially on the offensive line. Hopefully their losing streak will end soon as the regular season quickly approaches.
