One dead and one seriously injured in stabbing in downtown Phoenix

One man was killed and another seriously injured in a stabbing in downtown Phoenix on Monday evening.

Sergeant Phil Krynsky, a spokesman for the Phoenix Police Department, said officers were called to a stabbing near 16th Street and Indian School Road around 8 p.m., where they found a man with a stab wound. The man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Krynsky said officers arrested two people at the scene who were believed to be involved in the fight.

When homicide detectives arrived on scene, they learned that another man had been taken to a nearby hospital with stab wounds and was in critical but stable condition. Investigators linked this man to the first fight.

Krynsky added that preliminary information suggests the two men got into an argument near a supermarket during which both men pulled out knives and stabbed each other. Investigators will interview the surviving victim once he recovers from his injuries.

As of Tuesday evening, police were unable to identify either of the men.
