Convicted felon sentenced to 12 years in prison for selling fentanyl

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Missouri (KFVS) – On Tuesday, a Jackson, Missouri man was sentenced to 12 years in a federal prison for selling fentanyl.

The U.S. Attorney's Office announced that 45-year-old Rodney G. Harris was sentenced to 144 months in prison for trafficking fentanyl.

Harris appeared for his sentencing in federal court in Cape Girardeau on August 20.

At his guilty plea hearing earlier this year, Harris admitted to selling fentanyl to a person in Cape Girardeau County twice in 2022.

Harris was unaware that the person who purchased the fentanyl was working as an informant for police officers.

According to court documents, Harris has multiple felony convictions, including multiple convictions for methamphetamine trafficking.

At the time he sold the fentanyl, Harris was on probation for a meth trafficking conviction in 2013.

After Harris serves his sentence, he will be given three years' probation.

This case was investigated by the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Office, the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Assistant U.S. Attorney Jack Koester was in charge of the prosecution.
