Teen killed, adult hospitalized after being hit by car in Oakland – NBC Bay Area

A teenager was killed and an adult was hospitalized after being struck by a car in a crosswalk on International Boulevard in East Oakland Monday night.

Just before 6:30 p.m., the 17-year-old Oakland resident was crossing the street near 72nd Avenue with an adult, also from Oakland, when they were struck by a motorist traveling eastbound “at a high rate of speed,” according to Oakland police.

The teenager died at the scene and the adult was taken to hospital in stable condition, police said in a news release Tuesday.

The driver reportedly fled after the collision, but was soon involved in a multi-vehicle crash in the area of 8400 International Boulevard before being taken into custody by Alameda County Sheriff's officers, police said.

“It appears that alcohol may have played a role in this collision,” the police statement said.
