Man and woman die in apparent murder-suicide in northeast Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man and a woman are dead after a suspected murder-suicide Tuesday night at an apartment complex in northeast Columbus, police said.

Officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called to the 2600 block of Lauffer Ravines Drive for a well-being check around 5:30 p.m. Sergeant Joseph Albert said someone called the check after noticing that the neighbors' three young children had been waiting outside their apartment for several hours.

When the officers arrived, they gained access to the apartment with the help of the caretakers and found both parents dead, apparently from gunshot wounds. A gun was found in the apartment, Albert said.

Albert confirmed to 10TV that the incident appeared to be a murder-suicide and that the man probably shot the woman first and then himself.

The Columbus Police Department's Homicide Unit is investigating the incident.
