“I’m preparing for my baby’s funeral,” US influencer sparks outrage

American influencer Karissa Widder has caused huge controversy with a video showing her preparing for the funeral of her newborn baby. The video, which shows her smiling and twirling in a polka dot dress, was posted on Instagram and has since shocked millions of people.

In the video, Aries captions a caption that reads, “I'm getting ready for my baby's funeral where I got ready for my wedding.” She continues in the caption, “We celebrated her life where we got married. There's no better place to celebrate our girl.” The video, which has been viewed over 12 million times, presents an unconventional and unexpected way of dealing with grief and leaves viewers divided.

While the influencer disabled comments on her Instagram post, the video found its way to Reddit, where it drew strong reactions. Some users expressed outrage and questioned the appropriateness of sharing such intimate moments publicly. One Redditor noted, “Have people lost their conscience, their minds, and everything else because of a few likes and comments?” Another user criticized the video, saying, “She was actually smiling and spinning in circles while preparing for her child's funeral.”

The controversy intensified when users discovered that Widder had posted an entire series documenting her grief, including videos of her holding her daughter for the last time and packing up the nursery. These videos were met with mixed reactions, with some accusing her of exploiting her grief for content.

Responding to the backlash, Aries acknowledged the criticism on her Instagram stories and seemed unfazed by the negative comments. She wrote, “These comments are wild hahah,” and later added, “Sorry to the haters I'm still smiling and dressing up. So crazy I know.”

Aries' baby died tragically just two days after birth, and since then she has used her platform to speak openly about her grief. Despite the criticism, some people have expressed their support for Aries, recognizing that grief manifests itself in different ways. One Reddit user defended her, saying, “People cope in different ways and she is very clear that she is doing the best she can in these difficult moments.”

Another comment on her Instagram post read: “Getting dressed and going out into the world was the only way I could get over my grief. People will judge you no matter what you do. Prayers for you and your family.”

While Karissa Widder's approach to grief sparked heated debate, it also shows how diverse and personal people are in dealing with loss and grief in the age of social media.
