Montgomery man seeks answers in school bus crash that injured him and his children

MONTGOMERY, Alabama (WSFA) – A Montgomery man is searching for answers after he and his three children were injured in an accident in April.

A police report obtained by WSFA 12 News states that Richard Underwood was leaving Wilson Elementary School after picking up his children when he said a school bus crossed into his path and collided with his car.

“He had ripped the vehicle in two,” Underwood said of the bus driver.

There were no children on the school bus at the time of the accident.

After hospital treatment and numerous follow-up visits, Underwood said Montgomery Public Schools had very little contact with him.

“After four months, they still haven't called me. Not a single one,” Underwood said. “They sent me a package in the mail, like an application form to fill out.”

Records show that Underwood has filed a claim with the ATBE Automobile Fund, but he has not yet been told how he will pay his mounting medical bills. It seems as though “nobody cares.”
