Kolkata doctor rape and murder case – LIVE updates: CBI may conduct lie detector test on former RG Kar Hospital director; protests continue across India

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) yesterday dismissed a fake letter that was circulating on social media in connection with the ongoing investigation into the rape and murder.

The letter, which is being widely shared on social media, bears the signature of a person named “Dr. Akash Nag,” who appears to be an Indian Police Service officer working with the CBI.

The official statement said, “A fake letter in the name of a person named Dr. Akash Nag, claiming to be DIG, Joint Director, Crime Branch, Kolkata, with the official title of 'Central Bureau of Investigation, Office of the Deputy Inspector General, Anti-Corruption Branch, Kolkata' and addressed to the Union Home Minister is circulating on social media through WhatsApp etc. and pertains to the case of rape and murder of a female junior doctor of RG Kar Hospital, Kolkata.”

“It is established that the said letter is fake. The investigation in this case is being carried out by the CBI headquarters in Delhi. Moreover, there is no officer in the CBI with the name and designation of Dr. Akash Nag, DIG, Deputy Director of Crime Branch, ACB, Kolkata. The contents of the said letter are false and are therefore vehemently denied,” it added.
