“13,000 videos on a single drive”: Indian doctor jailed in the US for recording nude videos of children and women

An Indian doctor in Michigan, USA, was arrested by police and detained on $2 million bail. He was accused of serious sexual offenses, including taking nude pictures and videos of children and women. The 40-year-old doctor, identified as Oumair Aejaz, had hidden cameras in bathrooms, locker rooms, hospital rooms and even in his own home.

Local media reported that he was arrested on August 8 after his wife presented the explicit videos to authorities.

He reportedly came to the United States from India on a work visa in 2011. He only started working in Michigan in 2018.

Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said Tuesday (Aug. 20) that Aejaz filmed himself performing sexual acts on women while unconscious. He said the full extent of the crime is not yet known and it could take months for the case to be fully investigated.

Following his arrest, several search warrants were issued covering the doctor's computers, phones and 15 external devices. Bouchard said they found a single hard drive that had over 13,000 videos stored on it. Police believe the defendant may have also uploaded such videos to cloud storage.

“The victims are so numerous and the perversion so great that we are only just beginning to understand it,” Bouchard said.

Oumair Aejaz was officially admitted on August 13. He was charged with one count of child sexual abuse, four counts of taking a photograph of an unclothed person and five counts of misusing a computer to commit a crime.

The public prosecutor's office said that the police had “evaluated truly shocking and alarming images” in recent days.

The main case against the doctor revolves around a 2023 incident in which Aejaz allegedly filmed a mother and her children in a changing room at the Goldfish Swimming Club.

Oakland County District Attorney Karen McDonald said: “These are children and mothers in a swim school. They are there to teach their children to swim. Because it brings joy to their children and because they want their children to be safe around water. They were victimized by a trusted person in the community – a doctor.”
