Rochester man allegedly carried machete during argument

ROCHESTER, MN (KROC-AM News) – A Rochester man faces felony charges after being accused of swinging a machete during an argument on Monday.

The criminal complaint filed Tuesday in Olmsted District Court states that Rochester police officers responded to a report that an agitated man with a machete had entered a residence in northwest Rochester shortly before 4:15 p.m.

One of the officers reported that he saw two men who were apparently about to fight with each other.

The victim told police a man identified as 43-year-old Solomon Malik Williams During the argument, he pulled out a machete and pointed it at him, the complaint states. He reported that he flew back to his vehicle and grabbed a stick to defend himself.

According to court documents, officers found Williams on his bicycle with the machete lying on it. No injuries were reported.

Court records show that police suspected Williams of being drunk at the time of the incident.

Williams was arraigned on a charge of aggravated menacing in Olmsted District Court on Tuesday. His bail was set at $1,000 and he is due back in court later this month.
